A few years ago, I wanted to give Jim something special for Valentine's Day. Not knowing what to buy, I resorted to my favorite thing - creating something special just for him.
I started with a clear glass plate from the craft store. Plates like this are made to hold candles. You can also use a clear pie plate or dinner plate from a thrift shop. Then, pick out a pretty paper for your accents, one for the background and another for your border. I chose a textured beige pattern for my background, roses for my accents and a tone on tone burgundy for the border.
Lay your plate right side up on your background paper, then trace around the center of the plate (not the outer edge). Cut out the circle. Next, with your accent paper, cut out a variety of flowers or whatever is featured and dry place them on the background until you know where you want them. Using Mod Podge, adhere the accents to the background paper circle. Now you have open spaces to write your messages and phrases.
I used a Sharpie and wrote little expressions of love, in a variety of styles and on different angles in the open spaces. Anything that means something to you and your mate will do - just let your heart be your guide. When finished, allow the ink to dry, then you can Mod Podge the background with the attached accents and writing, onto the bottom of your plate, so that it shows through when the plate is placed right-side up.
The last step is to randomly tear up your border paper and Mod Podge it to the underside of the plate's rim. The rim size will vary depending upon what type of plate you choose. Play around with it and make it your own special creation!
Jim's plate is displayed in our bedroom on a small easel. You could also attach a plate hanger for wall display. Enjoy!
Hugs, Leena

What a personal and romantic gift for the one you love on Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteHi Leena, I'm sure your husband appreciated the thoughtfulness of such a heartfelt gift. Thanks for sharing the idea. I read some of your posts and found that we share a love for pets, dogs especially. One of my very special dogs was named Molly like yours. Presently, I have a poodle, two overweight doxies and a long haired chihuahua all very much spoiled. Anyway, thanks for commenting on my blog and come visit again! Shannon
ReplyDeleteHi Shanon! Thank you so much for visiting and leaving your sweet comment! Yes, I love dogs and really miss having one since Sullivan passed. I would love to get another sometime. I love long haired chihuahuas! They are so cute! I have been wanting to get two of them. Like I said, some time. There are two that live up the street that I see once in a while - adorable! Take care and I'll be visiting your blog regularly! Hugs, Leena
